Drink Your Soup
On a cold day, it’s wonderful to sit down to a hearty bowl of hot soup. Sometimes we don’t have time for a sit down meal however.
Historically, when I was rushed, I would simply put some bone broth into a thermos and drink that while I was working. More recently however, I started thinning out some soups that had been blended and started drinking those … WAY BETTER!
If you are someone who has plenty of time for meals, this post may not be particularly relevant to you you. It’s for those of you who struggle to get nutrient dense foods into your body daily, either due to time constraints or other reasons.
Last week I make the potato leek soup recipe below. It’s a much healthier version of a traditional potato leek soup (no cream or butter) and it’s still very flavorful.
I added some extra chicken stock to it when I heated it up and was able to drink it while I met with several clients. I also brought some to the pickleball court one day and had a much healthier snack than I would have otherwise.
My next drinkable soup will be the butternut squash, though I’m also looking forward to the broccoli white bean and the carrot ginger soups. I’m not sure about the black bean because I tend to leave that with a little more texture, but anything can be blended a bit more.
You can drink any soup you can think of as long as you make it the right texture. It’s going to be hot so you have to be able to pour it into a cup easily or be able to drink it out of your thermos without burning yourself.
I find the cup a much easier option because the soup starts to cool once it’s out of the thermos but still stays hot enough to keep you warm while you drink it.
Just a thought for those of you who are “too busy to eat”. It’s been a bit of a revelation for me!
some relevant drinkable soups options are listed below. You can also eat them in a traditional manner if you prefer.
