Changing Your Routine
Trying new things on a regular basis is like taking a mini-vacation from your life. It’s super important because it gets you out into the world in a different way than you’re used to and it stimulates your brain and your body in ways that help you to grow.
We have a friend who vacations often and does not understand why we don’t want to go on vacations. She says that it’s important to get out of our routines and into a new environment as a healthy break from our lives.
She’s absolutely right, about the break from our routines and trying new things.
We believe we can do this without traveling so have been making a concerted effort to try at least one new thing every week and it has to be something we’ve never done before. Here’s what we’ve come up with so far:
Two weeks ago there was a sidewalk chalk art walk in downtown Northampton. Despite living here for many years, we’ve never been to it.
We got out for a long walk, saw beautiful art and contributed to the local economy by purchasing some fun items in our favorite kitchen store. These were some of our favorite chalk art pictures.
Last week we finally got out to Food Truck Friday, hosted by the Abandoned Building Brewery in Easthampton. We went for a bike ride, discovered new food, and had a great meal out by the mill pond.
They’re small things but the new experiences add up and positively impact the overall quality of our lives. We haven’t figured out what we’re doing for new fun this week but it will be something we’ve never done before and I’m sure it will be great!
What is something new that you can do this weekend?
It doesn’t have to be anything grand (but it can be if you want it to be), just something you would consider to be fun or interesting and you ‘ve never done before.
Maybe it’s eating out at a new restaurant, going for a hike somewhere you’ve never been, or booking a hot air balloon ride.
Action Steps
Take a minute or two right now and make a list of all the new things you might do, without editing yourself to only things that are realistic.
Pick one thing from your list above and go out and do it this weekend.
Have fun taking a mini vacation from your life while you enjoy something completely new!
