Norwich Lake
Exercise as Fun
Norwich Lake is a beautiful body of water tucked into the woods of Huntington, MA. It has become our favorite go-to place for paddle boarding, kayaking, and even swimming.
It’s a very quiet lake surrounded by beautiful forests, some homes and two different camps, one of which is the Northampton YMCA’s camp Norwich. People are friendly, the water is clean and it’s incredibly beautiful.
To be able to exercise and have fun while doing so is an amazing gift to ourselves. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming are all great forms of exercise and are not only fun but also relaxing and mindful.
How can you be stressed while looking at these views??
The lake definitely gets a little busier after 5 PM on weekdays and on weekends but it’s so small that there are very few motor boats, no jets skis (that we’ve ever seen) some pontoon boats and small fishing boats.
For a complete list of information related to the lake (or technically the pond), check out the Massachusetts Paddler site.
The only minor downside of this spot is the last mile or so in is dirt road, and it does get bumpy and eroded. It’s fine if you take it slowly and avoid going when the Camp Norwich buses are coming in or out.
Action Step:
Think of something that you like to do (indoors or outside) that is fun for you and also involves moving. It can be anything at all.
Now try to do more of it!
It’s important to do structured exercise to help keep us strong and flexible, but it’s equally, if not more important to keep moving throughout your day and to enjoy those movements while you live your life.
